Today’s mental workout for relaxation Fridays marks the official end of summer, it’s about that time to raise our glasses of fine red wine and toast to another wonderful summer departed. The end of summer blues is a common issue across the world, it’s perfectly natural to feel a little down as the colder weather sets in and the cycle of seasons of life continue to spin. To combat the reduced Serotonin, one of the neurotransmitters that makes us happier as a result of direct sunlight, you should surround yourself with your favorite colors as much as possible. Bright colors can spark your mood. Change the colors of your quiet room in the house, you know the place where you do all those mental workouts. The idea is to allow for a nice, smooth transfer of the fun summer attitude into a calm and peaceful winter. Also you want to appeal to your sense of smell, discover some new scents and aromas, hopefully they are not coming from your own body. Unearth a new fragrance and see if that spices up the mood, it may even excite your partner too.

As we head into the final quarter of the year, it’s time for some reflection before the big finish. How are you as far as your goals for the year? Are you on track or way off? If you are proceeding well, give yourself a pat on the back. If you blew away all your goals, next time include really big vision ones. If you haven't completed many goals, it’s still not too late to finish the year off strongly. Remember the hare and tortoise tale, it’s not how you start - it’s how you finish! Whatever you do, you want to finish the year strongly and carry that momentum into the new year. Don’t wait to get going on your goals in January, start now, get in some experience. As you take time to reflect on the year with your nice glass of wine, consider if you really enjoyed yourself over summer. If not, ask why. Did a hectic schedule prevent you from enjoying yourself with friends and family? Reflect on what went well and determine things that need to improve. Life’s journey first and foremost is supposed to be filled with happiness and peace of mind. If you are not getting it for whatever reason, take time out to probe deeply into mind, body and spirit, look inside your soul to discover what's blocking your fulfillment.

As the days darken and get shorter, try to get as much sunlight as possible, keep blinds open at home. At lunch time, choose to sit outside and eat. Absorb as much natural light as possible, remember the sun is your power source for energy. You are going to need all your strength to deal with the kids back in school and the fast approaching holiday season. Ensure you keep up with your physical exercise too, with a busy schedule, it’s easy to procrastinate. You must exercise to keep stress and tension away. Also you may want to adjust your diet, most people are more active in summer than winter, so naturally your body’s metabolism will slow down a little. Going to bed earlier allows you to wake up earlier and enjoy more daylight. Remember to dream and wake up fully refreshed ready to turn them into reality. If ever you get down, appeal to your senses with triggers that remind you of the wonderful summers you’ve enjoyed over the years. No worries, in the blink of an eye, summer will be back before you know it. Raise your glass of to another summer gone by, and all the best for the coming winter season, as always make it a spirited mental workout.
